  • Instructors

    • Q. I am an Instructor. How do I add a class?

      A. Click on the Add Class icon indicated by the red arrow below. Fill in the required fields (Class name, Date of the class, Instructor, and Market if applicable) and click Submit to add.

    • Q. How do I add participants?

      A. Once you're in your newly-created class, click on the Add Learner icon indicated by the red arrow below.

    • Q. I added a participant to the wrong class. How do I move that participant to the correct class?

      A. The LMS has a built-in feature that allows you to move a participant from a current class to a new class. To do so, click on the Move Learner icon indicated by the red arrow below and move the participant to another class. Note: you can only move participants to another class of the same type. For example, you cannot move a Hybrid Refresher participant to a Flex class.

    • Q. My participant was prompted to enter an Activation Code. What does that mean?

      A. The Activation Code is unique for each class and is at the top of their Welcome email. If prompted, this means the participant registered with a different email than the one you entered in the LMS (e.g., jsmith@gmail.com vs. jsmith@abccompany.com). The Activation Code links the participant’s new account that they registered with the class to which you intended to invite them. Note: this will add the participant to the class a second time under their new e-mail and may require the instructor to delete the original invite in order to recover the seat.

    • Q. How will I know who has completed the online portion of the training and how many seats I have remaining?

      A. The LMS tracks the participants who have completed the course and provides you with quiz scores upon completion. CPI requires an 80% passing grade for most courses. Information about your remaining number of seats will be available online. You will also be able to check participant status online at any time. We recommend that, for your own records, you track your seats as you issue them.

    • Q. How can I help participants if they did not receive a quiz score?

      A. In order for the LMS to receive a participant’s score, make sure the participant closes the player browser window (pop up) and then navigates back to the LMS course page. If a score does not appear in the result column, hit the Refresh Score icon indicated by the red arrow below.

    • Q. How do I order and purchase seats?

      A. You can purchase seats directly through the website or you can order seats through the LMS by clicking the shopping cart icon displayed in your Toolbar indicated by the red arrow below.

    • Q. What is included with the purchase of Flex?

      A. You will purchase the number of seats you need for your participants to access the online portion of the course. Upon purchase, CPI will ship the same number of Flex job aids to you for distribution in class. You also receive access to Flex Quick Start and Instructor materials to print or view on your phone, tablet, or computer.

    • Q. I understand that when using Flex, I can select different markets for my participants. How do I do this?

      A. When you set up a class in the LMS, you choose the appropriate market based on your organization or on your participants if you support multiple markets. Currently, Flex offers customized tracks in education, health care, and human services. All content aligns with the Foundation Course; however, examples and scenarios vary by market. When you create a class, you will need to select the appropriate Market (setting). You will see a Market dropdown menu that is required when you create your class. From there, you can add participants. To add an additional market for participants, you would need to create an additional class.

    • Q. Do I need additional training to teach the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Flex program?

      A. No additional training is required, you can use Flex right away. It’s a blended learning delivery method available to train your participants in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. The QuickStart and your Instructor Guide provide you everything you need to facilitate the class discussions and activities.

    • Q. Are CPI's physical interventions introduced or reviewed in the online portion?

      A. No physical skills are taught in the online portion of Flex. Some concepts related to physical intervention, like the risks of restraints, are covered, but all physical interventions are taught and practiced during the classroom session.

    • Q. If I choose Flex training, do I need to train all staff using this method?

      A. The benefit of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is that you may teach a traditional classroom OR use Flex. Based on time and staff needs select which option works best for your organization. Both methods provide the same training content and blue card certification.

    • Q. Can participants come to the classroom session without completing the online component?

      A. No. Participants must complete the online portion of the course and pass the quiz with a score of 80% or better to attend the classroom session. You can verify participants’ course completion and quiz score by running a report on the Learning Management System (LMS). If staff have not completed the online portion or have not passed the quiz, you will need to reschedule them for a later class.

    • Q. How will I let my participants know where to access the online portion?

      A. After you purchase seats for your participants and set up your class through the LMS, you will be able to add participants. An email is automatically sent to each participant. You will also be able to resend the invitation or send group messages as reminders directly from the LMS. Refer to the QuickStart Guide for step-by-step information about how to purchase seats, set up classes, add participants, and send emails.

    • Q: How do my participants receive a blue card?

      A. Once your participant has successfully completed the online portion of Flex and received a score of 80% or better on the quiz, they will be ready to come to class. Once they have completed the in class portion, their blue cards are located in the back of their job aids for training documentation.

  • Learners

    • Q. How long does it take to complete the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Flex training?

      A. Most participants are able to complete the online portion of Flex training within 2-3 hours. Length of your classroom training will depend on your organization and staff needs. Most classroom sessions average 3-6 hours, depending on which units you teach and how much time you need to provide for effective skill practice. Guidance is available in your Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor Guide or you may contact Instructor Support for one-on-one assistance.

    • Q. Can participants come to the classroom session without completing the online component?

      A. No, participants must complete the online portion of the course and pass the quiz with a score of 80% or better to attend the classroom session. Verify participants’ course completion and passing quiz score by running a report on the Learning Management System (LMS). If staff have not completed the online portion or have not passed the quiz, you will need to reschedule them for a later class.

    • Q. I was prompted to enter an activation code, what does that mean?

      A. The Activation Code is unique for each participant and is at the top of their Welcome email. If prompted, this means the participant registered with a different email then the one you entered in the LMS (i.e. jsmith@gmail.com vs. jsmith@abccompany.com). The code links the participant’s email with the associated seat you created and ensures they access the correct course. This eliminates the need to reassign the participant and use a second seat.

    • Q. How long will the online portion take?

      A. Participants average around 2-3 hours to take the online course. After completion, participants will have access to review any module at any time.

    • Q. Is closed captioning provided?

      A. Closed captioning is provided for those who are hearing impaired (or would just prefer to read the text instead of listen). Also, larger font has been used for those who are partially sighted within the CCs. Font size is optimized/built to accommodate most modern browsers.

    • Q. How do participants access the Online Learner’s Guide?

      A. The Online Learner’s Guide is available in the online portion of Flex. Participants download the guide and have the option to either print or type their notes directly into the guide. Learner’s that do not have access to a printer are encouraged to write their answers to reflection questions in a notebook or notepad to share in the classroom portion of Flex.

    • Q: How can participants move through the course?

      A. The course is broken out into four sections (it includes all 10 modules of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and a quiz). The course is designed, so that you have to view all slides before the LMS will allow you to move to the next section of modules (i.e., you need to view all slides in Intro-4 before 5-7 will become available).

    • Q: What if a participant exits in the middle of the course, will they have to start over?

      A. The Flex online course automatically bookmarks where the participant last viewed the course. This allows the participant flexibility to enter and exit the course as needed and still have their progress saved. Please note: a participant must complete all modules in each section (view all slides) in order to access the next section of modules.

    • Q: Will my Online Learner’s Guide that I downloaded from the course save from module to module?

      A. We recommend downloading the Online Learner’s Guide and then saving it to your desktop or another storage location, filling it out as you move through the course and saving again. Or, you may simply print it out so that you have it for class. If you are unable to print the Learner’s Guide, we recommend capturing your examples, reflections and notes separately in a notebook to share in the classroom discussions.

    • Q: How can participants access the quiz and print the certificate?

A: Participants must complete all 10 modules (and view all slides) before the quiz will become available on the LMS. Once the quiz is successfully passed the participant may fill out and print a certificate.

    • Q: My participants did not receive a score?

A: In order for the LMS to receive your participant’s score, make sure the participant has closed the player browser window (pop up) and then navigates back to the LMS course page. If a score does not appear in the result column, hit the refresh icon next to the unit.
